Best for

Creators who move between a camera with a 3.5 mm mic input and compatible USB-C devices, and want two transmitters with a case-based handheld option.

Choose another if

You need a Lightning receiver, onboard backup recording, or a desktop tripod included in the kit.

The BOYA Magic 03 is the receiver bundle to consider when a creator wants to move between a camera’s 3.5 mm mic input and compatible USB-C recording devices without buying another microphone system for each. It includes two transmitters, a charging case and both connection paths. Its best fit is a mixed camera-and-phone kit; the receiver choice, not the “Magic” name alone, determines which devices you can connect.

Check the receiver bundle first

The BOYA Magic 03 package pairs a USB-C receiver with a separate 3.5 mm TRS camera receiver. BOYA lists two transmitters, the charging case, receiver and microphone windscreen pieces in its package contents. That combination covers a compatible USB-C audio host plus a camera that accepts the included 3.5 mm connection. A USB-C port by itself does not prove a phone, tablet or camera can use an external microphone, so check the exact device and app before buying.

The other Magic kits have different contents. BOYA lists Magic 01 and 02 with USB-C, Lightning and 3.5 mm receivers; Magic 05 is the USB-C-only package, while Magic 04 adds a desktop stand to a USB-C kit. The 03 does not include Lightning. If a Lightning-only device is part of the plan, compare the 01 or 02 package instead of assuming every Magic bundle contains the same receiver set.

Four forms, with one add-on to plan for

BOYA describes the Magic as a clip-on, handheld, desktop and on-camera microphone. The transmitter clips to clothing; BOYA’s handheld form uses the charging case as a grip. For its desktop form, BOYA specifies a mini tripod that is sold separately, so the Magic 03 box is not a complete desk-stand setup. Its 3.5 mm receiver and camera-mounting form are useful for a camera input, while the USB-C receiver gives a second path to compatible phones and computers.

The source image for this review is the official Magic 03 configuration image. It identifies the USB-C receiver, 3.5 mm TRS receiver, two transmitters, case, cable and windscreens together, which helps distinguish this bundle from the USB-C-only variants. BOYA lists two transmitters for the 03; check whether the case and receiver arrangement suits your set before relying on a product-family image or title alone.

Choose the output around your recording device

BOYA lists Mono, Stereo and Safety Track modes. In Mono, audio from the transmitters is combined into one output. In Stereo, BOYA says the transmitters are sent to separate output channels, but the connected camera, computer or phone must support stereo input. Safety Track records a quieter secondary channel at -12 dB, is available only with Mono mode, and needs post-production separation. If you need to adjust each speaker independently, confirm the recorder’s channel behavior with a short test file before an important shoot.

There is no onboard recording in BOYA’s published specifications. This kit therefore depends on the connected camera, phone or computer to capture the audio; it does not leave a transmitter-side backup if the host recording fails. BOYA rates each transmitter for up to six hours and lists up to 30 hours of case operating time. Treat those as manufacturer figures and plan around the shorter per-charge period.

BOYA also offers Light and Strong noise-cancellation settings and advertises reductions of up to 15 dB and 40 dB. Those are the manufacturer’s figures, not an independent comparison of speech quality in your room. Noise reduction cannot fix poor placement, clothing rub or wind; use the included wind protection that fits the conditions and monitor a real sample before a paid recording.

Price and code check

The BOYA US store listed the exact Magic 03 variant, SKU BOYA Magic-03, at $166.66 on October 28, 2026. In a fresh one-item cart, the partner code FRIEND-6GTP4T3 reduced it by $16.66 to $150 before tax and shipping. The same product page displayed a separate store code, BTSRFJERV6; in another one-item cart, that code reduced this variant to $100 before tax and shipping. The carts were tested separately, then cleared without checkout or payment. These results do not establish referral attribution, code stacking or a completed order; compare the live offers and order summary before paying.

For the broader choice between a clip-on and shotgun microphone, read our lavalier-versus-shotgun guide. Choose the Magic 03 when both of its receiver types match your devices; choose another bundle if you need Lightning, and budget for a separate mini tripod if a desktop setup is part of the plan.

What we like

  • The reviewed bundle includes both USB-C and 3.5 mm TRS receivers with two transmitters
  • The case gives the transmitter a handheld form; BOYA also describes clip-on and on-camera use
  • BOYA lists mono, stereo and safety-track output modes

What to know

  • This 03 configuration has no Lightning receiver; the USB-C connection still needs device and app support
  • BOYA lists no onboard recording, so the connected host remains the recording destination
  • The desktop mini tripod is sold separately, and stereo input support varies by connected device
